Determine Network Status Binfer automatically configures your network to allow you to send and receive files at the best possible speeds. However, due to the wide variety of network and firewall equipment, sometimes, the optimal network speed is not achieved. You can try to manually configure the network settings to see if you get better speeds. The steps below require advanced knowledge of configuring firewalls and NAT settings. Start Binfer and notice the color of the network status icon (two computers connected icon on top-right). 1. If the computers are connected with each other and hovering on icon pops up as tip saying “Connected to Binfer Network” then your network is already configured optimally. There is no need to change anything.

2. If the computers in the icon are not connected (showing a cross (x) sign), then network port is not open. See the below section to configure the port. Configure Port 1. Uncheck the Auto configure firewall box. Select a port number (maximum value is 65,000). Make sure that the selected port is not used by any other application. 2. Type the port. 3. Click the Restart button.

Network settings Open Router Port 1. If you have a NAT device, such as a wireless router, then you will have to open the port on that device. Configure the virtual server or the port forwarding feature of your NAT device to send all traffic arriving on that port to the computer on which Binfer is running. The example shows how Virtual Server feature of the D-Link wireless router was configured to open a port. Refer to your own NAT device[wireless router’s] manual on how to open a port. You can search for the following text “how to port forward” on your favorite search engine, to find helpful resources on this subject. Ensure that the port numbers for NAT and Binfer are exactly the same and they do not conflict with any other application.

NAT virtual server configuration example

Open Desktop Firewall Port 1. If you have a desktop firewall then you will need to open/add a port by referring to instructions specific to your operating system. Configure your desktop firewall to allow the selected port.
